Global EverGreening Alliance (GEA) is a membership-based organisation that develops long-term solutions to restore degraded lands and improve livelihoods on a globally significant scale. We bring together some of the world's most capable development and environmental NGOs, research, and scientific organisations to support and facilitate massive-scale environmental restoration and sustainable agricultural projects. Together we build on our shared vision of resilient landscapes and agricultural systems, a safe climate and better livelihoods for rural communities. We are currently implementing Africa's largest ever community-led land restoration project: Restore Africa.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a passionate, motivated, and experienced Database Management Officer to manage and maintain a structured query language (SQL) datahub that serves as the Management Information System (MIS) for our Restore Africa Program. The Database Management Officer will ensure efficient data collection, storage, security and accessibility to support program monitoring, reporting and certification (MRV)processes, meeting Gold Standard certification requirements. This role will involve collaboration and will work closely with our Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) officers, MEL and Knowledge Management Officer and the MRV staff of implementing partners.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
Database Development and Maintenance:
- Maintain the SQL datahub to support the MIS needs of the organisation.
- Optimize database performance and ensure system reliability and scalability.
- Conduct regular database backups and implement disaster recovery plans.
- Explore opportunities for efficiency and performance improvement by integrating new applicable technologies.
Data Integration and Management:
- Ensure seamless integration of data from Restore Africa and other projects as required into a centralised MIS.
- Develop protocols for data synchronisation across project sites and ensure data consistency.
- Monitor and resolve data discrepancies in collaboration with project and technical teams.
Data Security and Compliance:
- Implement robust security measures to protect sensitive program data.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and Gold Standard requirements.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Collaborate with the MRV team to generate insights and visualisations from the database for reporting purposes.
- Support the preparation of data for project audits and certifications.
- Develop and automate dashboards for real-time monitoring of program activities.
- Contribute to and support the annual planning exercise of projects where needed.
System Support and Training:
- Provide technical support to project teams in the use of the MIS and related tools.
- Train staff and stakeholders on data transmission, management, and report generation processes.
- Develop and maintain user guides and technical documentation.
- Trouble shoot technical problems where they arise.
Capacity Building:
- Enhance the capacity of field teams to effectively utilise data collection tools and integrate field data into the database.
- Conduct regular training sessions on database management and system updates.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with local and regional project teams to align database functionalities with program needs.
- Represent the program in technical discussions on database management and information systems.
Key Selection Criteriria
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- At least three years of experience managing SQL databases in development or environmental programs.
- Experience in integrating databases across multiple projects and countries.
- Familiarity with Gold Standard certification requirements is an advantage.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in SQL database management, including MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or GIS platforms.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or other languages for data manipulation and analysis.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams across multiple countries.
Problem-solving and Adaptability:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing program needs and work independently under minimal supervision.
Other Relevant Skills and Experience:
- Fluency in English in both oral and written communication.
- Experience engaging with local communities and stakeholders.
- Understanding of climate finance mechanisms and carbon markets.
- Experience with managing non-SQL databases.
